ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) Essential Conditions that I feel are Applicable to Mentoring

Mentors must have a “shared vision” which is a “proactive leadership in developing a shared vision for educational technology among all education stakeholders including teachers and support staff, school and district administrators, teacher educators, students, parents, and the community” (ISTE, 2008, para. 1) This is essential to mentor teachers because they must be leaders in the school and technology. Which ties to the second Essential Condition “empowered Leaders” (ISTE, 2008, para. 2). Moreover, mentor teachers must be preparing the staff he/she is working with to be “skilled personnel” to use the technology resources and provide “ongoing professional learning.” These learning plans must be technology-related (ISTE, 2008, para. 7-8). Finally, the mentor teacher must help the mentee prepare student-Centered Learning tasks. To sum up, ISTE’s Essential Condition, which are “necessary conditions to effectively leverage technology for learning” are important to for mentors to use to guide them while mentoring other teachers with technology. While they are all important, I feel that mentor teachers have the ability to guide mentees with these Essential Conditions: Shared Vision, Empowered Lessons, Skilled Personnel, Ongoing Professional Learning, and Student Centered Learning.
